Principal Guest Master

Ichiyo School

In 1937, a brother and sister, Meikof and Ichiyo Kasuya founded the Ichiyo School of Ikebana to give viewers a more unexpected and profound experience of nature. The first headmistress was Ichiyo Kasuya, and the second headmaster was Meikof Kasuya.

Since it started, the Ichiyo School has pursued a style of arranging flowers that harmonizes with the various spaces in our environment.

Profile of the Headmaster: Akihiro Kasuya, The Third Headmaster

Meikof Kasuya succeeded his sister and remained in that position until 1983. Upon his retirement, his son, Akihiro Kasuya, became the third Headmaster after acting as Vice-Headmaster for eleven years.

Akihiro Kasuya

Mr. Kasuya studied at the International School in Washington, D.C. and also at the New York School of Interior Design. He made his first appearance in active in major exhibitions, including the 1st I.I. Asian Regional Conference in Indonesia in 1988. In addition, Mr. Kasuya also demonstrated in many major events such as the I.I. Taipei Chapter 20th Anniversary of I.I. Singapore in 1988.

Mr. Kasuya takes a leading part in a modern Ikebana movement to produce new and exciting ideas in Ikebana. He presently serves as a Director for Ikebana Geijutsu Kyokai and Ikebana Kyokai, as well as flower master Advisor for Ikebana International.

The Ichiyo School's use of a simplified and systematic way of teaching, a correspondence program, and encouragement of personal interpretation, enables students to make progress within a comparatively short period of time. Imagination is stressed as an essential part of creative design as well as the proper selection of materials and containers.

If Ikebana is to be “Truly Fulfilling”, it should be a “Reflection of Oneself”.
